Misson, Vision, and Beliefs

Beliefs

  1. All school policies, attendance records, curriculum, student progress, and academic and non-academic data should be reviewed and analyzed regularly in order to check alignment with state policies and make the best decisions for the continued success of the school and its students.

  2. Students who are held accountable for their choices and actively engaged in the learning process demonstrate an increased sense of responsibility and a propensity toward lifelong learning.

  3. Students must be provided with a challenging curriculum that establishes high expectations, fosters adaptability, encourages higher-order thinking skills, and actively engages every student in the educational process.

  4. Offering a wide variety of classes and extra-curricular activities accommodates the diversity of our students and allows them to develop and pursue individual interests and goals in high school, post-secondary institutions, and the workforce.

  5. In order to nurture student progress and make the best decisions possible, it is essential that staff and stakeholders maintain a fluid and steady line of communication both within school walls and throughout the community.

  6. Since the school educates and prepares students for work in business and industry and service in the community, the opinions and suggestions of the community, and opportunities offered within and by the community should influence school curriculum and policy-making.

  7. A safe and supportive learning environment encourages attendance, maximizes the learning process, and motivates students to reach their potential.

  8. Technology is integrated into the classroom and curriculum as a tool to broaden and enrich teaching and learning.

  9. Quantum Learning is used to gain the skills and motivation that enhances the learning process and contributes to creating an academically and socially successful school community.

  10. A focus on freshmen can help to formulate a mindset in students during their first year to foster preparations and improve students’ success at Portland High School.

Common Mission

Providing a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment, we challenge students, through a variety of classes and activities, to maximize their individual potential as future members of our community.

Shared Vision

Our vision of Portland High School is of a community school that equips all students to graduate and works to meet and exceed state standards through constant evaluation and improvement.
